What appears to be a lonely country pond is really in the middle of the city. Even more amazing is that this is actually a rain water treatment area. Rain that runs off the road is all channeled to a pump station which then pumps the water into "The Tollgate Drainage District". Each plant in the district was placed there to perform a specific purpose in helping cleanse the runoff of pollutants and return the water to a natural and healthy state. The district is managed and maintained by the Ingham Country Drain Commission which is led by Pat Lindemann who was awarded the Hero of the Great Lakes award from Michigan Clean Water Action in 2007.
